So I’m going to start teaching a class on a Christian understanding of movies. I need some suggestions for good films, that is, films of substance, yet also films that are appropriate for high school seniors. I’m definitely gonna do No Country For Old Men and Babette’s Feast. Those two are musts.
Anybody got any suggestions?
There is much about Genesis 34 that lends itself to the holy-warfare theme of deception. A deal is made, where all of the men of Hamor and Shechem agree to be circumcised. They even “commune” with Israel. But then, while still incapacitated, Simeon and Levi kill all of the men. They take spoils and rescue their sister. The whole scene reminds us of Homer’s Trojan Horse.
But Jacob’s response tells it all.
