After much thought I’ve decided to watch There Will Be Blood again. It is, amazingly, still playing in Jackson, and so Saturday afternoon will be the time.
I have enjoyed many of the reviews I’ve seen online (not that one really long one that kept referencing 90s pop culture though. that one was lame), but I remain unconvinced by most of the attempted explanations. There’s definitely some more Exodus stuff going on, and Plainview is the antichrist, that’s for sure, but I’m not at all sure that there’s redemption within the movie. Andrew M’s comments were the most on target, I thought, but I’m prepared to give the film another go and see what I can discover for myself.
