Yahweh is a Man of War

A widely-held Rabbinic interpretation of Exodus 15:3 – “The LORD is a man of war; the LORD is his name.”- is that Yahweh actually appeared at foot of the Red Sea as a young warrior. He fought off the Egyptians while Israel escaped.

A very similar figure appears later in Joshua 5:13-15.

You may also be familiar with the chariots of fire in 2 Kings 6:17.

If you are on God’s side, you’ve got some heavy duty fire-power.

Of course, I think that this is behind what Paul means when he says that we do not fight flesh and blood, but rather we fight the powers of the air. Through the Holy Spirit, we are now the Angel Army.
